Lip Enhancement by Mr. BanwellLips are one of our most important facial features and our eyes consciously (and unconsciously) focus on lips when we look at people.
Hence the lips have been a focus of cosmetic adornment with forms of lipstick for centuries and a full lips are a sign of sensuality and youth and can play an important role in how we feel about ourselves.
The proportions of the lips are very important and expert plastic surgeons and cosmetic doctors have been studying this for years. Whilst there are also fads and fashions when it comes to lips, the key point is a natural, not ‘overdone’ look. Most of our patients want natural looking, full lips and do not want others to know that they have had their lips enhanced.
However, we also cater for those who want a definite super pout and are keen for major impact factor. However, regardless of whether you are keen for ‘subtle’ or something more ‘obvious’, it does take time to create gorgeous lips so please remember that it can take some months to get to the final look before regular top ups. In a time where almost anybody can inject using poorly regulated cheap, imported products from overseas we can reassure our patients that we provide a premium service and premium products.
Whether it is to add volume or just re-define lip structure, both male and female patients can choose the degree to which their lips are enlarged and they will always be involved during the treatment as communication is vital.
You may of course desire a more voluptuous, sexy appearance which can be achieved immediately or augmented over time with surgical procedures. We will aim to tailor any treatment according to your wishes.
Dermal fillers are used to achieve this lip enhancement. Mr Banwell and his team specialise in cheek and lip augmentation.
DERMAL FILLERS TO LIPS
There are many types of dermal fillers and products on the market today like the Juvederm range, Teoxane range and the Restylane range, which are non permanent. The most popular dermal fillers are synthetic Hyaluronic Acid formulations.
Mr Banwell’s choice of product is the Juvederm range from Allergan. Juvederm contains Hyaluronic Acid which is a substance that occurs naturally in the body. It also contains lidocaine which is a local anaesthetic designed for the comfort of your treatment. Hyaluronic Acid is biodegradable, typically lasting between 3-9 months depending on what kind and how much filler is used.

LIP LIFT TO IMPROVE FACIAL AESTHETICS
Lip lift surgery performed by Plastic Surgeons is also gaining popularity once more as lip appearance becomes increasingly important. Some patients will notice that they have a longer length between the base of their nose and their top lip. This can just be a normal occurrence but can also lengthen due to the ageing process. The ‘lip lift’ or ‘batman’ lift or ‘eagle’ lift is a relatively straight forward procedure performed under local anaesthetic which shortens the distance of the skin above the upper li and create a more youthful appearance. However, this is at the expense of a scar. Mr Banwell would be delighted to discuss lip lift surgery with you at consultation. N.B Please note that vascular compromise is a potential major risk in lip augmentation procedures with dermal filler.

Frequently Asked Questions
Following a full consultation, medical history and consent, the treatment will involve a series of small injections into the lips to restore volume. We will work together to achieve a natural subtle look and you will choose the volume required.
The length of time depends on the area to be treated but around 30 minutes.
Most dermal fillers incorporate a local anaesthetic to reduce discomfort. A topical anaesthetic can also be applied to sensitive areas if required, without any pain.
The cosmetic effects are seen immediately and continue to improve over the following days.
Results will last between 3-12 months, sometimes longer, depending on the area treated. The effects will gradually wear off and the optimal time for a subsequent treatment is just before the product has completely disappeared. Longevity can be maximised by avoiding extremes of temperature for 2 weeks following treatment.
We advise that you wait 12 hours following treatment to reduce the risk of infection although we stock an amazing lip balm from Albus and Flora that contains antioxidants and natural anti-inflammatories that out patients love to use following this treatment.
It is best to refrain from alcohol or exercise for 24 hours following treatment. Alcohol and exercise cause vaso dilation and may increase the risk of bruising.
Your treatment will be priced according to the amount of product used. This will be discussed with you prior to treatment.
Side effects include temporary discomfort, mild swelling and occasional bruising can occur which will settle in a few days and will not affect the outcome of your treatment. We advise that you refrain from Aspirin or Ibuprofen prior to treatment to reduce this risk.
If you have previously suffered from cold sores, the treatment may precipitate an outbreak. Prophylactic anti viral creams may be used.
Allergic response and infection is rare, but does occur. On very rare occasions (less than 1:15,000) prolonged firmness, abscess formation or a grey discolouration at the treatment site has occurred. These reactions can occur several weeks post treatment and normally resolve over time. Even more rarely, the formation of a scab and shedding of tissue at the treatment site has been noted (including lip necrosis) which could result in scarring.
You should be referred to a reputable clinic, preferably by personal recommendation.
Enquire who will be performing the treatment and how much experience they have. Treatments are refined over time and should be carried out by experienced injectors.
Ask what type of product is used, whether temporary or permanent. You should be able to make an informed choice. We use temporary fillers that have a high safety profile and predictable results. If you are offered a brand you do not recognise, ask for further information and about the company that produces the product.
