Wrinkle Treatments by Mr. BanwellWrinkles (rhytids) are natural creases or folds in the skin which typically appear as we naturally age.
They are also caused as a result of sun damage, smoking, stress, poor hydration and habitual facial expressions.
Sadly, wrinkles and having bags under the eyes are practically inevitable but some are preventable and there are many medical grade anti-wrinkle creams and treatments available that work to help minimise their appearance. Mr Banwell and his team can advise on products from the Rationale Skin Care range.

Avoiding sun exposure and applying high protection sunscreen from an early age are the classic treatments that will help to reduce wrinkling in later life. Anti-Ageing serums or topical cosmeceuticals applied daily will also help reduce wrinkles and lessen further formation.
However, one of the mainstays for treating wrinkles and reducing the appearance of wrinkles is botulinum toxin. Botox is a highly effective remedy for treating Dynamic lines (wrinkles caused by muscular activity) and is probably the most well known wrinkle treatment (see below). Injectable dermal fillers, eg. Juvederm, can be also used to add volume and lessen the appearance of wrinkled static lines (click here for link to dermal fillers page). Lastly, chemical peels, plasma shower and dermaroller (medical needling) are very effective in reducing and softening fine lines too.
Botox® is one of the many trade names for botulinum toxin that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Botulinum toxin has been safely used in the medical profession for many years. Since the 1980’s Botox® has been used successfully in the field of aesthetic/cosmetic medicine. In cosmetic procedures a small amount of diluted botulinum toxin enables deep controlled relaxation of muscles to smooth wrinkles and lines on the face. Botox® can be used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines over the upper part of the face such as the forehead, the glabella (frown lines between the eyes) and the lines around the outer corner of the eyes (crow’s feet). Botox is also commonly injected around the mouth, lips, neck, hands and eyelids
As well as eyelid surgery and forehead lifting (brow lift), botox can best be used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the outside of the eyes and between the eyebrows, offering professional remedies for crows feet and wrinkles of the side of the nose sometimes associated with smiling by paralysing certain muscles temporarily. Botox temporarily paralyses the muscle decreasing dynamic lines and used long term will minimise the production of stationary lines. Wrinkle reducing treatments such as botox is now commonplace and millions of treatments have been performed worldwide.

It is very rare to have an allergic reaction to botox. Occasionally bruising and swelling occur and this may take a week or so to improve.
Botox may spread to involve muscles of the face that were not intended to be the target, which may result in drooping of the eyelid. This will generally subside within two to three weeks, which Mr Banwell may review.

Cold packs may used to numb the area prior to the injection of Botox and minimise superficial bruising following treatment.
Result times vary from patient to patient and can sometimes take up to five days for the paralysis of the muscles to occur and for wrinkles to diminish. Any bruising can be helped with cold packs for a period of 48 hours.
