Dermal fillers are injectable materials made from a very wide range of materials (usually synthetically-produced hyaluronic acid [HA].
Dermal fillers still remain popular to improve volume and structure to the lips and cheeks (eg Juvederm). These are best used to smooth out the natural appearance of facial lines, including the nasolabial folds (cheek creases), marionette lines (coming down from the mouth), the eyes, the augmentation of the lips, nose, frown lines, forehead furrows, crow’s feet, lip (smoker) lines, and dimples in the skin, by ‘filling’. Dermal fillers may be used alongside other techniques like a jowl facelift or wrinkle treatments or botox injections.
However, Skin Boosters and treatments which stimulate collagen production have found a definite place on most patient’s wish list – and for good reason. Profhilo took the aesthetic world by strom some years ago and represented anew era of Hyaluronic ACID formulations. However, products which stimulate collagen production such as Jalupro and Rejuran (and other Polynucelotides) have replaced Profhilo as the latest wonder treatments
"Skin boosters have now replaced dermal fillers as the go-to injectable treatment."

These effective procedures may be carried out in clinic and take about 30-60 minutes, depending on the number of areas to be treated, and the volume of product to be used. The specific choice of exclusive product that you and Mr Banwell choose may depend much on the results you require and the area being filled or treated (eg. delicate lines or deep furrows). A topical anaesthetic cream (eg. EMLA or AMETOP) may be applied in some cases (eg. breast skin) to reduce discomfort half an hour prior to the treatment. Mr Banwell will then inject the Skin Booster or filler into the site to be treated to plump out or regenerate the skin. It will be gently massaged once it has been injected into the site.
Following the procedure, there may be some redness in the treated areas, though this is usually minimal. Your face may be a little swollen and tender for a short period, and then the swelling will go down. Lumpiness is not uncommon but this should settle quite quickly especially with Profhilo, Jalupro and Reuran.
Normally, patients can leave the clinic and go home a few minutes after the procedure. You can return to work the same day and resume most activities within four hours. The treatment starts to work immediately but the greatest effect is seen after about 1-2 weeks. Make-up may be applied immediately afterwards. Patients can choose to have more volume should they wish after a couple of weeks for an extra charge. Lines and wrinkles treated should appear smoother and softer, giving a more ‘youthful’ appearance to the face. The effects are not permanent but should last for around 3-9 months depending which product is used. It is thought that regenerative treatments have a cumulative impact and we are particularly keen on these so -called Skin Boosters which can help create a Korean ‘glass skin’ appearance
Special complications particular to Dermal Fillers include a risk of allergic reaction to the filler, contour irregularities, lumpiness, asymmetry and bruising. Depending on the area in question vascular occlusion and blindness are the most serious complications. If you experience cold sores, then there may be a recurrence of them after treatment, although the chance of this can be minimised by the use of antiviral medicines.

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments for the skin used in the correction of wrinkles, volumisation of the face, cheeks and lips and to refine contour to the lips, tear troughs, nose, cheeks and jaw. Dermal fillers can also be used for pan-facial rejuvenation; the so-called liquid facelift has led to decreased demand (and desire) for surgical face-lifting as the 8-point facelift and MD Codes system popularised by Brazilian plastic surgeon, Mauricio De Maio has found a firm footing globally. The majority of formulations utilise synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA) with varying cross-linkage.(Juvederm, Teosyl, Profhilo, Restylane, Volift, Volite, Teoxane Redensity, RHA, etc) but some newer preparations offer collagen stimulating properties too (Ellanse).
Dermal fillers may be used to contour and volumise a variety of facial features including the cheeks, nose, nasolabial folds, temples, chin and lips. Furthermore, dermal fillers have also been used to volumise the labia majora (so-called ‘labial puff’) in non-surgical female genital rejuvenation.
Depending on which hyaluronic acid filler is used, dermal filler treatments can last 4-6 months or longer. Mr Banwell’s nursing and office team can discuss this with you in more detail.
Most certainly! Liquid facelifts with dermal filler are one of our most popular treatments at the Banwell Clinic. A comprehensive treatment plan can be prescribed for you.
Generally, dermal filler treatments with hyaluronic acid are safe and millions of treatments have been performed worldwide with a very low complication rate. However, recognised complications include lumpiness, Tindall effect, asymmetry, migration, infection and vascular occlusion. Whilst it is extremely rare blindness can also occur.
