Reduction Mammaplasty
Breast Reduction by Mr. BanwellLarge breasts can create more than just physical symptoms; they can have a significant impact on emotional and psychological wellbeing.
Issues with self-esteem, unwanted attention, difficulty with clothes and issues with relationships are just some of the problems facing women and girls with very large breasts.
This does not even take into account the pain and discomfort in everyday life or with exercise. It doesn’t take into account the grooving from bra straps, neck and shoulder pain or rashes under the breasts. It doesn’t take into account the difficulty of finding suitable (and comfortable) underwear either.

See the results of Mr. Paul Banwell’s work on real patients!
We understand this and we have seen the immense physical and psychological benefits that breast reduction surgery can bring to our patients. The journey is not necessarily easy but the outcomes are universally incredible. Accepting the scar pattern and the slightly longer recovery of around 3 weeks is usually not an issue. We are here to hold your hand and guide you through this journey which is usually life-changing.
One cannot over estimate the impact this surgery has on our patients. Nethertheless it is important to go through careful discussions with Dr Paul at consultation so he can understand your personal concerns and hopes and aspirations for the surgery. Adhering to his expert advice, wearing a support bra post-operatively and optimising lifestyle factors will undoubtedly help you during your breast reduction journey.
The decision for cosmetic surgery should not be taken lightly. This is why Mr Banwell believes that the consultation process with him and our Concierge is so important. Regardless we are here to hold your hand throughout your journey and answer any questions you may have. That leap of faith may be anxiety-provoking but please know that we will always be here to catch you!
Surgeons like Mr Banwell recommend having a general anaesthetic undertaken by a specialist anaesthetist. The operation for reducing the breast is usually performed with the assumption of an overnight stay.
We generally like to see you at least twice prior to your surgery, although Mr Banwell welcomes and encourages you to visit as many times as you require, to give you support, offer tips, and allay any concerns you may have about your surgery, and at the same time, confirm the size, look, expected outcome and requirements you are trying to achieve. It is vital that you are fully informed of what the procedure involves and discuss the potential risks and alternatives.
After the operation there are no stitches to remove as they are all internal. The aftercare will consist of having a hospital nurse or administrative staff member contact you after the operation to ensure that you have no problems or complications during your convalescence. You are generally in hospital 1-2 nights. There will be post-op visits at one week, then at two & six weeks and at 6 months. A crop-top/ athletic bra is to be worn day and night for six weeks. We recommend no driving for two weeks post-operatively and no rigorous exercise for six weeks. At your first post-op visit we will discuss the best way to achieve the optimum scar result.
Mr Paul Banwell will discuss with you how much breast tissue you would like removed and what cup size ideally you would like to be after the operation. Of course there can be no exact guarantee as to what cup size the breasts will be after the operation and he will make it as close to this size as possible.
There are both general and specific risks and Mr Banwell will talk to you in detail regarding these. General risks include bruising and swelling, bleeding, wound infection, problems with general anaesthetics and it is not scarless, with abnormal scarring and keloid scarring, and blood clots in the legs and lungs. The specific risks of breast reduction for a woman include loss of sensation to the breast skin or nipple, bottoming out of the breast, interference with breast-feeding, continued neck, back and shoulder pain, fat necrosis or skin loss, wound breakdown and haematoma, asymmetry, nipples size difference, asymmetry in nipple heights and delayed wound healing.
Mr. Banwell’s team at the Pantheons Clinic would be delighted to help at any time so please feel free to call HQ on 01342 330302 or email help@paulebanwell.com.
