Breast augmentation surgery, sometimes called a boob job, is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic surgery procedures in the world.

Your cosmetic surgeon will create an incision around the areola or in the inframammary fold under the breasts. The silicone breast implant will be inserted through the incision.

You may be treated as a day patient or Mr Banwell may advise you to stay in hospital overnight, depending on the complexity of your surgery.

We prioritise aftercare to ensure that your healing process is smooth and the recovery time is as rapid as possible.

Patients have post-op visits after a week with one of our specialist nurses. Mr Banwell will review your progress after 2 weeks, 8 weeks and six months.

It is essential that you wear a crop-top/athletic support bra day and night for eight weeks to support your tissues. This may not be a glamorous look, but it is necessary to ensure optimal results.

It is important to rest and ease yourself back into normal activities gradually. You should be able to drive after one week and return to the gym after eight weeks.

At your 2-week post-operative visit, you will be shown how to massage the surgical incisions to reduce the appearance of your scars.

The plastic surgery procedure will be painless as it is performed using general anaesthesia, but you will experience pain, swelling and tenderness in the breast area for around a week after your breast enlargement.

You will receive pain relief in the hospital and a prescription for further medication when you leave.

Patients who have previously had poor-quality implants may suffer from implant rupture. This complication requires further surgery to remove the implants.
