What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation surgery, sometimes called a boob job, is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic surgery procedures in the world.

This surgical procedure increases breast size and improves breast shape by adding volume to the breast area with the insertion of silicone implants.

You can see pictures of patients before and after surgery here.

Breast enhancement as a corrective surgery

Although a boob job is often performed for purely aesthetic reasons, silicone implants are also used during corrective surgery for tuberous breasts.

A single implant may be used on one side of the breast area to correct asymmetrical breasts.

What happens during a breast augmentation procedure?

Your cosmetic surgeon will create an incision around the areola or in the inframammary fold under the breasts. The silicone breast implant will be inserted through the incision.

Mr Banwell will choose one of two placement sites for the breast implant, either behind the breast tissue or partially under the pectoralis muscle. He will discuss the technique he plans to use and its benefits with you at your initial consultation.

Breast enlargement surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and takes between 45 and 90 minutes.

Your consultation with Paul Banwell, consultant plastic surgeon

Patients at the Banwell Clinic receive the highest standards of personalised care, and this approach begins at your initial consultation.

Mr Banwell is a specialist in breast augmentation surgery and offers a range of techniques to create the perfect breast shape and size for your body.

He may suggest the use of breast implants alone or breast enlargement with fat transfer, using fatty tissue from elsewhere in your body. The fat transfer method is suitable for women seeking a moderate size increase and can be combined with implants for a more pronounced effect with Mr Banwell’s hybrid HYBA technique.

Mr Banwell’s wealth of experience in breast enlargement surgery means that he can advise you on the size and shape of breast implants and the technique that will create the effect that you desire.

You will be given all the information you need on the procedure, recovery and outcome to help you make an informed decision.

Aftercare and recovery time post-breast enlargement surgery

You may be treated as a day patient or Mr Banwell may advise you to stay in hospital overnight, depending on the complexity of your surgery.

We prioritise aftercare to ensure that your healing process is smooth and the recovery time is as rapid as possible.

Patients have post-op visits after a week with one of our specialist nurses. Mr Banwell will review your progress after 2 weeks, 8 weeks and six months.

It is essential that you wear a crop-top/athletic support bra day and night for eight weeks to support your tissues. This may not be a glamorous look, but it is necessary to ensure optimal results.

It is important to rest and ease yourself back into normal activities gradually. You should be able to drive after one week and return to the gym after eight weeks.

At your 2-week post-operative visit, you will be shown how to massage the surgical incisions to reduce the appearance of your scars.

Is a breast enlargement procedure painful?

The plastic surgery procedure will be painless as it is performed using general anaesthesia, but you will experience pain, swelling and tenderness in the breast area for around a week after your breast enlargement.

You will receive pain relief in the hospital and a prescription for further medication when you leave.

Breast implant removal

Patients who have previously had poor-quality implants may suffer from implant rupture. This complication requires further surgery to remove the implants.

Many implant removal patients choose to have a new high-quality implant inserted by Mr Banwell to restore the shape and size of their breasts.

How much does breast augmentation surgery cost at the Paul Banwell Clinic in Kent?

The cost of a breast augmentation procedure starts at £ 7,800. Finance packages are available.

About Kent

Kent, often called the “Garden of England,” is a county in southeast England, bordering Greater London, Surrey, and East Sussex, with coastlines along both the North Sea and the English Channel.

The county has a wealth of historical attractions. Canterbury Cathedral is one of England’s most ancient religious buildings and a major pilgrimage destination since medieval times. Dover Castle, overlooking the famous White Cliffs, has stood as a defensive stronghold for centuries. Leeds Castle, often described as “the loveliest castle in the world,” and Hever Castle, childhood home of Anne Boleyn, also draw visitors from all over the world.

Famous people connected with Kent include Charles Dickens, who lived in Rochester and Tracey Emin, who lives in Margate.
