The Ballerina breast concept was coined by Professor Paul Banwell many years ago but the idea and concept has gained more traction globally in recent times. Essentially it is an easily recognised term much akin to a ‘mini-boob’ albeit by another name. However, it cements a global trend and desire amongst women for smaller implants to create a more natural, elegant and athletic breast augmentation. Dr Paul and the team at PANTHEONS clinic have been leaders in ballerina breast augmentation for some years we believe it produces some amazing results.
By definition a ballerina breast augmentation utilises breast implants that are smaller in size and generally this equates to implant sizes between 150-250cc depending on your existing breast size and height. The pocket is purely dependent upon the patient’s personal preference and the implant may be placed subglandular or submuscular (dual plane). As you may be aware there are pros and cons of each choice although there has been a shift with tissue preservation techniques and recovery times to go subglandular where possible. Part of this shift is that the reasons for going under the muscle have proved to be incorrect. An important point to note is use of the term ‘natural’. This means different things to different people but essential ‘naturalness’ is more about the volume of the implant chosen rather than the pocket.
Dr Paul Banwell specialises in cosmetic breast augmentation and believes this operation can have huge benefits on emotional and psychological wellbeing and he has now performed over 6000 breast enhancement procedures. As a patient you also have a huge variety of choices as Dr Paul is one of the few surgeons in the world to offer every current available technique including tissue preservation techniques (Mia Femtech, Motiva Preservé), his signature minimal scar technique, composite/hybrid techniques with fat transfer and then of course the options of using the latest generation breast implants – Motiva Ergonomix implants, Motiva Joy implants and Motiva Biconvex diamond shaped implants.
Rest assured you are in excellent hands and Dr Paul’s team at PANTHEONS Clinic is here to help make your journey as smooth as possible. We use rapid recovery techniques, total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA) and large volumes of local anaesthetic to minimise pain and discomfort and allow you to return to normal activities such as socialising, work and gym as soon as possible.
The decision for cosmetic surgery should not be taken lightly. This is why Mr Banwell believes that the consultation process with him and our Concierge is so important. Regardless we are here to hold your hand throughout your journey and answer any questions you may have. That leap of faith may be anxiety-provoking but please know that we will always be here to catch you!

No. Dr Paul generally does not use drains for his breast enhancements. We understand that this is a concern for some patients but his preference is not to use drains for ballerina breast augmentation
